Safiya

Hello! I am Safiya. I was born in Abu-Dhabi (UAE), but my family roots are in Somaliland. I have been living in the UK since 1985.

Making a difference in my community
In 2013 I set up a charity called Reach Up Youth that is a community organisation in the Burngreave area (Sheffield). The aim is to provide a programme of social, educational and recreational activities within a safe environment, which encourages young people (boys and girls through our projects called Big Brother and Sisterhood) to reach their full potential. I make a difference in my community by getting them involved and showing them what they are capable of.
My top tip! My advice for other migrant women would be: learn the language, get education, you are equal to everyone else and help your community
